— Were these two practice weeks enough to build the perfect form for ESL One Katowice 2018?
Yes, definitely enough. Every day we play at least four and maximum five to six and even more matches. We play RMMs, study replays, build our game as we did before. We are very serious about this event.
— Do you practice only against CIS or also Europe?
Against everyone: both CIS and Europe. The tier 1 teams, Team Secret and Team Liquid, do not play this week. We play against tier 2 and 3 teams.
— Looking at Tier 1 teams: Team Liquid, Team Secret and Newbee, who do you consider the strongest opponent?
All of them are really strong. We used to not have problems against Team Liquid before, then they showed up and we couldn’t win anymore. We almost always beat Team Secret. Although frankly it was around 50/50. They can win, we can win, it’s circumstantial to an extent.
— You will start the Major against OpTic Gaming. Do you think Peter "ppd" Dager is as good of a drafter as he was back in 2015?
No, he lost some of it. We played some scrims against them even: one on EU server, another on NA. We never lost to them.
— You look like a maximalist. How hard is the new 15-20 LANs a year system for you, is it impossible to win everything?
Yes, I look at Minors more or less skeptically: yeah we lost, it happens, Majors are the important thing. We don’t accept many invitations to Minors. The Summit is our favorite tournament, we go there because it’s our event.
Obviously I always want to win, but we can’t do that right now.
— Do you pay attention to the Dota Pro Circuit standings?
We know that we are close to the top 3 with a sizable lead. We need to win just a few more events and we go to The International. We don’t sweat much about this stuff.
— Why should you switch your Power Treads to Agility when Mask of Madness is off, and switch to Strength when it is on?
We tested this at The International 2017: me, Roman "Resolut1on" Fominok and Rostislav "fn" Lozovoi. When you turn on MoM, your PTs should stay on Strength, without the ultimate. When you farm creeps, you need PTs on Agility. When your ultimate is on, you must switch PTs to Strength because ult bonus damage is based on Strength, then you turn on MoM.
— Does your stats man provide these kind of tricks or must you test all this yourself?

Maybe. Maybe the teams are stronger. I am really good at picking online, I outdraft almost any team, but when I come to LAN you know what happens.
— Who is the best drafter in the scene, excluding your team?
KuroKy obviously. Or…. Yeah, Kuroky.
— When you play on a carry like Medusa, is there a difference where to start: in mid or safelane?
Frankly, there is no “hard carry” definition anymore. There is a Terrorblade here, he is strong early game, mid game, and late game. Medusa is strong early as well: she has a very powerful nuke to let her trade faster. We have these kind of heroes that are strong throughout the game. Naix is very strong as well with the new Radiance build: strong laning early, Radiance in mid game and the Infest-bomb in late game blows up any hero. There used to be Morphling, the strongest hero in this game, unbelievably strong.
There are a lot of heroes like those now, including in mid lane: Dark Prophet or Shadow Fiend for example.
Everything depends on your enemy's draft. You can put three heroes mid, put Medusa safe. Dota is versatile right now: you can pick a hero and put it on any lane.
— Was Lycan nerfed enough?
Hmm… he is a strange hero. He has a lot of counters, I think. Lycan must be put on position 2 or 3, but never 1, he is a secondary core. He can easily run in and kill some support, but he can’t do much at minute 30 except create space in the fight and buff allies. As a position 2 or 3 he is very strong, so he wasn’t nerfed enough.

Terrorblade. He is the strongest core right now. Not as strong as old Morphling (ban Ancient Apparition, first pick Morphling and that’s it), but even with all the counters he is very strong.

Bounty Runes moved closer to the safe lane: more money. You can push the lane, get two runes, farm neutrals, and get back to the next lane wave.
— People say that RodjER is very good at motivating the team and demands 100% from everyone. Do you feel that yet?
I've known RodjER for four years now: we played together back in the first CIS REJECTS roster, when Andrey "ALWAYSWANNAFLY" Bondarenko couldn’t play. We lost the WCA qualifiers to Alliance and finished third, it was one of my first events and RodjER was already playing well back then.
A year or so later I ended up in Team Empire, and we gathered for WESG. I suggested RodjER, but Alexei "Solo" Berezin was against it. We took Rinat "KingR" Abdullin, then lost. Then we took RodjER for another WESG, we had no position 4s at all and we didn’t want to play with anyone but RodjER. That’s the roster we have for this WESG: with iLTW and RodjER, we wanted those two because there are no equal of them in Russia.
We won the European qualifiers to WESG. We beat big teams, like mousesports. All games were very easy really. RodjER talks a lot in the beginning, gives a lot of information, knows where to be. He has a good core for the position 4.
WESG was the main reason for taking RodjER in our team. We won and Solo liked him a lot, plus we were having some internal problems at the time. As Solo said on his stream, he took a vacation after DreamLeague because of Lil. We thought things through after it and decided to make a replacement. We do not regret anything so far, RodjER is a cool dude, we all like him a lot.
— You said RodjER was good even four years back, so no one noticed him all this time? It looked like he got noticed at The International 2017.
Yes, TI was the first stage, standing out more than other Natus Vincere players was the second, he did more than all of them combined. We noticed him then.

No, I believe that Lil is the one responsible for everything that happened. He could’ve changed everything if he wanted, but he didn’t care. He thinks that he does everything right and others are at fault. Maybe it is so, time will tell.

I was surprised by Lil’s reaction. I could say more but… You used to go on any site and see all the comments about Lil playing the worst and so on. You scroll through and not take it seriously.

— What do you do when you’re not playing Dota or sleeping?
Nothing, I am always in the game. Sometimes I go out.
